In the following we describe the achievement procedure of a G.I.S. for managing the coastal area of Abruzzo Region, developed using the Intergraph software GeoMedia Professional v.5.1 with the creation of custom commands by programming with MS Visual Basic language, as part of the "SICORA Project":( Supporto Informativo per la gestione della zona COstiera della Regione Abruzzo).

In this project we are doing a " Reverse Engineering " of the software actually available inside the Abruzzo Region and developed in preparing two specific previous projects named: R.I.C.A.MA. (Rationale for Integrated Coastal Area MAnagement) and CIPE (Delibera n.106/99 "Integrated Management of Coastal Area. Organized Plan for studying the risk of the vulnerable areas") .
The project activities are included in the main targets of the applied regional research on the coastal dynamics finalyzed to establish a Decision Support System (DSS).
In this respect, the application under development will be able to achieve the start up and the development of the process of the management of coastal area which consists of formulation of answers by the Public Authority , related to the variation of coastline on spatial and temporal variables also regarding the effects on it, determined by human activities.
In this paper we point out the importance of having, on the same cartographic support, diachronic elements of the coast line, transverse profiles of the beach and condition of maritime works (cadaster of the maritime works), as boundary conditions to be associated to the historical series of the meteomarine forces.
In this respect , in the project we will test an activity related to the cadaster of maritime works, for the coastal portion we are studying.
The G.I.S. will be able to store, update and visualize all the information about the maritime works, derived from the existing historical information and in consequence of the survey operations.
