Discussion on the future activities
The discussion will be the occasion for a brainstorming about
possible initiatives of the GI-CLAN Community.
Among other issues the link with the GI-INDEED project and the Oceans21 initiative
will be introduced as well as possible activities within the G-MES Programme
and in a long perspective, within the 7th Framework Programme.
"GI-INDEED (Geo-Information in the Implementation of Netbased Distance Education for Environmental Decision-making)" GI-INDEED is a EU training project, directed by the University of Gåvle (S). It aims at improving life-long learning and continuous training in the field of geo- and environmental information in order to tune data according in particular to the proposed new INSPIRE Directive. In such a context, the realisation of modules of pilot training are foreseen on: 1) environmental web services; 2) tuning of data and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI); 3) use of SDI for protected areas; 4) use of SDI for coastal areas.
"Oceans21 - GIS for Coastal Management and Coastal Education" (www.iccops.it/oceans21), is a cooperative programme of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of Unesco and the International Geographical Union (IGU). The overall objective was identified as developing useful concepts, methods, and techniques in integrated coastal management for coastal managers and planners, with special consideration of the developing coastal environment, with education and training as cardinal operational arenas and with GIS as technical tool. ICCOPS hosts the operational secretariat of Oceans21.
