The aim of this presentation is to describe the Centre régional de l'information géographique Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, and to show the actions managed by its coastal thematic pole.

CRIGE PACA

CRIGE PACA is an institution financed both by the French government and the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (Conseil régional) within the context of the State-Region planning agreement. Its mission is to develop and organise the production and use of geographical information (i.e. databases) in PACA region.
This mission is composed of six operational points :
- making easier the purchase of digital geographical datasets for mutual use ;
- proposing, animating and coordinating the production of thematic datasets in order to create a regional GIS. This is under the responsability of eight thematic poles : economical activities, agriculture, forest, training/employment, coastal areas, urbanism, forest defence against fire, and risk ;
- data diffusion / sharing;
- providing information and knowledge about geographical information;
- technological and juridical watch;
- organising the production of a regional dataset for land ownership (référentiel cadastral régional).

Through these actions, CRIGE has created a network of users which, for a long time, has been constituted by experts only. This network is now expanding to local authorities as CRIGE activities are more and more about large scales applications (cadastre, large scale land cover).

COASTAL THEMATIC POLE

It is animated by Ifremer (Jacques Denis) and the water agency Rhône Méditerranée Corse (Pierre Boissery). This pole has three aims :
- listing existing coastal geographical datasets in order to create a data catalogue available on line
- organizing the production of coastal geographical information in a coordinated way
- sharing experiences.
Regarding the first goal, no specific action has been launched yet. Data producers are actually invited to contact CRIGE to refer to and, possibly, diffuse their data. For the second goal, several working groups have been created. However, only two of them are active : one on the purchase of SHOM data and another one on coastal erosion.
