To establish a correct and meaningful spatial planning
concept is characterized as complex and tough for many technicians and researchers.
In a simple way, spatial planning is the managing approach to geographic space
in relation to one reality model. To do that, the planner needs to identify,
distribute, organize and regulate all the different human activities developed
inside the territory, considering for that, a restrict number of priorities
and criteria's. So, spatial planning turns out to be one of the most important
items to support technically the political making decisions.
Specifically in the Portuguese context, compose by a huge coastal area characterized
by a constant human pressure increase, the waterfront management turns into
one of the most important elements to consider for an efficient and sustainable
territory administration.
The geographic information technicians require some tools which provides a scientific
knowledge, such has indicators, Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The major
poster aim is to establish a core set indicators proposal to apply in waterfront
management.
This poster is divided in two parts: a first part with a brief discussion about
monitoring indicators of waterfront management areas and in the second part
the results analysis.
