The second ECO-IMAGINE event gets to the heart of the ICAM problems addressing the theme of the Working Group, "COASTAL GOVERNANCE, PLANNING AND DESIGN AND GI", also with the possibility of first-hand actual views on specific metropolitan and regional cases.

During the conference two workshops took place, in collaboration with the Genova and Liguria administrations, to present at different levels (urban, metropolitan, regional) the outstanding characters and the main problems of this area, specifically coastal re-qualification and re-use, harbour and infrastructure planning and their impact, tourism and coastal engineering and management, marine environment and biodiversity protection, waterfront management at the different levels and scales, … . These sessions about the local realities have been accompanied by technical field visits to allow a clear and first hand view of the various coastal situations.

This possibility is considered an important element to offer to the present, European and non European, research environment a better and more efficacious view of actual problems present in coastal planning and management as well as a first introduction to a specific case that is meaningful by itself as well as transferable to understand other Mediterranean cases.

Some main subjects addressed in the various sessions are:

  • Coastal management and regional planning
  • Coastal management at the urban and metropolitan level
  • Environmental monitoring and resource planning in a coastal environment
  • Landscape analysis and coastal management
  • Implementation process of an ICAM plan

Moreover the conference represented a step forward of the other project Working Groups (Building Coastal Knowledge and GI, The Waterfront Management and GI, Geo-spatial Technologies).

The poster session made possible to the various research groups to outline their activity and to reinforce the mutual knowledge in a perspective of collaboration.

The final session offered the occasion to sum up the main outcome of the conference and to receive hints and needs for the future events in order to better tune them with the needs and expectations.
