The CoastGIS events
CoastGIS is a well-known major event in the field of the application of GIS and the related technologies to coastal and marine issues. It is held every 2nd year under the joint scientific sponsorship of the Commission on Coastal Systems of the International Geographical Union (CCS/IGU) and the Commission on Marine Cartography of the International Cartographic Association (CMC/ICA)
The CoastGIS Symposium convenes a common forum of coastal specialists and of GIS experts and technical operators with the opportunity to exploit the complementarity and the interdisciplinary aspects of these two domains.
The previous symposia, held in Cork (Ireland), Aberdeen (Scotland), Brest (France), and Halifax (Canada) were characterised by a very high scientific level and by the participation of many leading researchers and practitioners in the field of GIS and Integrated Coastal Management, drawn from a wide international community. CoastGIS'03 has followed successfully their tradition.

What is CoastGIS'03
CoastGIS'03 for Coastal Zone Management and GIS has been:

• a symposium with key-note speakers, scientists and users offering a panorama of the key scientific and technical issues
• a poster session to allow a more detailed presentation of scientific studies and of implemented cases
• an exhibition for a direct contact with technical operators
• a field trip organised together with the Administrations in order to join the display of local characters and problems with the presentation of solutions and plans

… … definitely, a meeting point of international level for scientists and practitioners and the occasion to get in touch with a Mediterranean context well advanced in this field

The target of CoastGIS'03:

• scientists for exchange of experience
• practitioners for an update on technology and a review of new approaches and methodologies
• users to get in touch with the state-of-the-art in GIS for coastal management and with new realisations in the fields
• technical and commercial operators to find an international meeting point
