Organisation description
The "Equipe
Gestion et Valorisation de l'Environnement - UMR 6012 du CNRS" is a
interdisciplinary team composed by 10 researchers/teachers from the University
of Nice Sophia Antipolis and from the National Centre for Scientific Research
(C.N.R.S.). This team is a part of the Research Unit 6012 of CNRS which
gathers several French universities (Avignon, Montpellier, Aix en Provence)
and some specific laboratory of the CNRS. The team from Nice is focused
on the water field and the environment management.
Planned research activity and its strategic reasons
The research activities of the team are oriented in environmental management:
Integrated Coastal Area Management, environmental impact assessment, hydrology,
hydraulic, climatology, geomorphology, erosion, landslide, groundwater
quality, applied geology. The activities are generally carried out in
co-operation with local, regional or national authorities or services
specialised in the environment management. The team is involved in several
international projects in Europe and also in several other countries world-wide.
The research activities are focused on the development of methodologies
and tools for the processes analysis and the help in the decision making
process. Modelling activities take a significant part and are organised
around the key technology of GIS.
The next researches will be focused especially on the modelling tools.
The aim is to elaborate efficient tools for supporting decisions makers
and municipalities involved in planning and management. Some of the next
application will be decision support system for analysis and warning (already
a strong activity in the team) or decision support system for the Integrated
Coastal Zone Management. In all these researches, the GIS technology is
used to collect the data and to present all the results. To improve the
efficiency of the systems, the GIS technology must be adapted and used
widely through the new IT tools (mobile phones, etc.). The future researches
will be focused on these topics.

Facilities and infrastructures
The University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis is able to host
different kinds of events. As a matter of fact, the different campus -
15 different locations - have several conference rooms which are able
to welcome easily 100 to 500 participants.
According to the definition of the event organised for the project an
association of the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis and the city
of Nice could also be foreseen. In this case, the workshop would be hosted
in other conference centres such as the Mediterranean University Centre
(CUM) or the MAMAC (Musee d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain)with the
support of the City of Nice
