The Conference is the occasion to present the outcomes of the Nature-GIS project, in particular the Guidelines and the NATURE-GIS Thematic Portal. These outcomes are aimed at demonstrating to final users, even without previous specific technical skills, the potentiality and actual use of GI for Protected Areas and a "Web-GIS access" demonstrated through the implementation of use cases across Europe.
The main beneficiaries are the operators in the field taking the opportunity to build their capacity and their technical expertise.
The Conference is also the occasion for presenting and discussing the “Nature-GIS option" (i.e. the approach and the technical framework in which the project was developed) as well as to get a direct contact with meaningful experience at a National and European level.
Finally, the Conference is also the occasion to discuss about the NATURE-GIS network and its future development.
Who should attend? Anyone who:
wants to have a first-hand information about the state-of-the-art of GI on the web for nature preservation, as implemented by the Nature-GIS portal together with its use cases that demonstrate this possibility of on line access to distributed geodata for protected areas
needs an overview about nature preservation matters at the European level, such as stakeholders and actors. policies, available technology etc... as presented in the "Guidelines for data infrastructures for protected areas"
is interested to know a regional situation, by Regione Piemonte, project partner, that is one of the leading edges at the Italian level for protected areas and nature conservation
wants to become active part in the process of creating a European Nature-GIS Community, as is made possible by the participation to the enlarged Nature-GIS group
finally, wants to exploit all the above possibilities to introduce himself to the world of geo-information on the Web, actually the technology not of tomorrow but of today that must be operated right now.
